Part 10 Bathroom & Bedroom

Now that we had a decent place to eat, we needed a couple of rooms for the other….needs. Here’s the evolution of the bathroom…..

This build happened in stages as necessity dictated….from March 2016 to Oct 2017.
While the floor was being tiled, another guy worked on the shower. This was to be an open area, no shower door or curtain. The Spanish guy doing the tiling thought it was weird. The little walls were built, and a seat area, as well as a little ‘niche’ inside, to hold stuff.

This was all part of the tile order when we went over to the mainland to do the shopping for the tile for the rest of the house.

Once the half-walls were built, they put in the pipes and cement board all over it. Followed with tile, and fixtures!I think the Spanish tile guy “Wilson” liked the finished product, even though he had never really seen anything like it before.
One of the first things Ed had to do when we moved in was to get some water happening in the bathrooms we could wash. Just a countertop and a couple of sinks did the job for a few months before he could get around to doing the cabinetry.

Later we got a giant mirror made for the back.
And finally we bought a real washing machine, and Ed made a great set of cabinets around it, including a built-in laundry hamper.

The bedroom was being worked on at the same time, replacing the mattress on the floor with a platform of storage drawers, so we could get some of our clothes laying around put away.
This was like this for a year. It took less priority than the kitchen.
It was ok, but there was still a lot of clothes and junk laying around, so the next step was to build a closet.
We decided to do the whole wall in closets and drawers. Ed also decided to build drawers under the bed.

So the workshop got busy, and installation day for the closets finally arrived. Here is a nice set of drawers arriving.

The closet units are on each end, and some uppers were made too, to store stuff you don’t use that often.
Soon after the doors got put on I wasted no time in putting away our clothes.
That wall space was filled in with a big mirror.

It took another 8 or 9 months, but we did finally get a chance to make a beautiful Rosewood headboard. Again, it was a very low priority compared to everything else that was going on.
